Warm self-care baths are an incredible way for a mom to decompress and relieve stress at the end of a long day. There are many relaxing bath ideas you can use to make your bath more of a spa-like experience. It doesn’t take a ton of time or money, it can give you an outlet to receive some much needed alone time, and you don’t have to leave your home to make it happen. Many self care options seem daunting and unrealistic to mothers because it takes too much time to make it happen. Relaxing bath ideas can make self-care for mothers feel more accessible.
Bath time to the rescue! Taking a warm bath is a way that you can show your mind, body and soul some serious self care on a regular basis, with minimal resources. Caring for yourself is important and can make a big difference when it comes to your mental health. We can all find enough time to enjoy a relaxing bubble bath. Let’s explore some simple relaxing bath ideas to create a spa-like experience in your own home.

1. If you have small children in the home, let’s make sure they are fast asleep to ensure a relaxing bath.
First thing’s first, make sure your kids are sleeping or otherwise preoccupied. If you want to make sure your bath is as relaxing as possible make sure your kids aren’t going to be interrupting you. I have definitely taken one or two emergency baths while the kids were up by making sure they were safe and locking the door. A party in the bath tub with the children can also be a great time, don’t get me wrong! For ultimate relaxation, put the kids to bed first before sliding into the tub.
2. Find your sweet spot as far as water temperature goes to help your bath be as deeply relaxing as possible.
There is nothing more disappointing than drawing a bath only to realize that it isn’t quite hot enough. While you don’t want to make yourself woozy with water that is too hot, I suggest pouring your bath with warm water on the hotter side of things. You can always let it sit for a bit to cool the water if you have to. Hot water will relax your muscles and lengthen the duration that you are comfortable in your bath.
3. Lots of epsom salts are required during bath time.
Meet your new best friend, epsom salts! A bath isn’t anywhere near complete without these bath salts. These miraculous grains of salt relax your sore muscles and relieve muscle pain like you would not believe. They also help detoxify your system of any toxic impurities, while delivering magnesium to your system, which nearly everyone is deficient in. Here you can read about the myriad of health benefits that go along with consuming magnesium. Adding cups of epsom salt to your bath will also help you get a good night’s sleep.

These epsom salts are the ones that I use. I love them and we go through a ton in my house. They belong in your kid’s baths too, not just yours!
4. Essential oils for aromatherapy will take relaxation to another level. Break out the bubble bath.
Add aromatherapy to your bath with some drops of essential oil. Take a deep breath and inhale the healing essences. Play around and find your favorites! There are so many essential oils out there to choose from and they all have their own unique healing properties that come along with them. Lavender essential oil is by far my all time favorite. It slips me into another world filled with tranquility and reduces anxiety. A bath isn’t quite complete without the delicious aroma of an essential oil. There is so much to learn when it comes to these healing oils. Have fun exploring them! A bath bomb can also serve as a welcome treat. There are lots of fun, natural bath products to play around with.
5. Don’t forgot the candles to set the mood!
Light a few beeswax candles to officially set the mood of your bath. Look at it as a date night with yourself and take your bathing experience to the next level. There is nothing more romantic than laying in a warm, delicious smelling bath, surrounded by candlelight. I absolutely love to read by candlelight in my baths. Propping up a candle, on the edge of the bathtub, in front of a good book, is truly the best way to read.
6. Drink water. The bath is a great place to hydrate.
When getting into a nice hot bath, bring a huge glass of cold water with you. If you’re taking an extra hot bath, this will cool you down while you soak. Hydration is so incredibly important and I find that it brings me back to life on another level when I consume a whole bunch of water in the bathtub.

7. Bring along a delicious cup of herbal tea, glass of wine or bar of chocolate. Or all three!
Grab your beverage of choice and treat yourself. Make your favorite cup of tea or even pop open a bottle of wine! Celebrate YOU! Chocolate in the bath is divine. You deserve it.
8. Moisturize your skin during a nice long soak.
Our skin is our largest organ. It is important to care for all parts of our bodies. Nourish your dry skin by adding bath oils or a moisturizing bath soak to your bath. Slathering your body with coconut oil is a great way to moisturize sensitive skin. You can also try adding coconut milk to your bath water for a nice long silky soak.
An oatmeal bath has therapeutic effects and anti-inflammatory properties that can make a huge difference with certain skin conditions. Play around with different bath recipes and find one that works best for your skin. A body scrub is one of the best ways to exfoliate your entire body while aiding in blood circulation. Put on a face mask while you’re at it and consider turning your soak into a spa day!
9. Breathe deep, rejuvenating breaths to heal and reset your nervous system.
Welcome to the most important part of your bath. Now that you have set the stage to have the most relaxing experience possible, it is time for you to close your eyes and focus on your breath. Deep, conscious breaths in an epsom salt bath is a healing experience that you deserve.
10. Music or a book can serve as nice entertainment for longer soaks.
Play some soothing music as part of your bathing routine. Try getting cozy with a book during a relaxing soak by the candlelight and make an evening out of it.
A bath done right will fill you with joy and vitality. It will make you a better mother, more available to show up for your children and yourself. Now go get in the bath!
